Dirty Dozen & Clean Fifteen

As a Naturopathic Doctor, I truly believe in the power of food based medicine and often search for the highest quality products for my patients. But like many of you know getting all your food organic can sometimes not be financially realistic. This is where the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen list really comes in hand. The Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen list was created by the Environmental Worker’s Group (EWG), to educate shoppers about the levels of pesticides present in particular fruits and vegetables. The Dirty Dozen contains the 12 foods with the highest amount of pesticides. These foods should always be bought organic. Whereas the clean fifteen contains the top 15 foods that have the least amount of pesticides and can often be bought without being organic.

Dirty Dozen (ALWAYS BUY ORGANIC)

  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Nectarines
  4. Apples
  5. Peaches
  6. Pears
  7. Cherries
  8. Grapes
  9. Celery
  10. Tomatoes
  11. Sweet Bell Pepers
  12. Potatoes

Clean Fifteen (Contain the lowest amount of pesticides)

  1. Sweet Corn
  2. Avocados
  3. Pineapples
  4. Cabbage
  5. Onions
  6. Sweet Peas (Frozen)
  7. Papayas
  8. Asparagus
  9. Mangos
  10. Eggplant
  11. Honeydew Melon
  12. Kiwi
  13. Cantaloupe
  14. Cauliflower
  15. Grapefruit
